My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

As a visual FX artist, I have always been passionate about creating visually stunning experiences that captivate audiences. However, my love for creating such experiences does not stop there. I am also passionate about sharing my knowledge and expertise in this field with the next generation of filmmakers. Therefore, I have made it my mission to teach teenagers in schools how to produce short films that showcase their creativity and vision. By providing them with the tools and guidance they need to bring their ideas to life, I hope to inspire them to pursue careers in the film industry and continue the legacy of visual storytelling. With the right resources and mentorship, I believe that anyone can learn how to produce a compelling short film that resonates with audiences. Examples of my work is available on request.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner

I have been a senior designer, a New Zealand art director where I ran the graphics team and was responsible for artistic direction, storyboarding, training and producing. We were mostly focused on Māori Language and cultural engagement through education.

I was also a video digital assistant on feature films, working as the main visual/technical presentation specialist for Main Unit Miniatures, making presentations for Peter Jackson, Weta Digital and Weta Physical, as well as Alex Funke.

I have been a senior editor/designer in the broadcast media industry, being both senior editor and working with motion graphics on mainly New Zealand government projects and prior to then worked on two daily live television shows providing graphics as well as working as a Directors Assistant.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I have worked with youth for much of my life. I taught Computer-Aided Design, and Digital Photography at Waiareke Polytechnic in Rotorua for three years and lectured at Waikato University several times in media studies. I have also managed an adventure camp here in Rotorua for three years focusing on school groups as well as running a successful leadership programme to run holiday programmes for children. I have been helping a local youth group for the last five years.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I would like to see all schools run Digital Storytelling electives focused on editing, visual FX, and 3D design. I want these programmes to connect with the local Polytechnic to help secure pathways into the industry. I believe there is a real hunger for this type of programme in the schools of Rotorua and the surrounding areas.
