My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I have a BFAhons from Elam, focussing in interdisciplinary contemporary art practice. I have a Minor in art history, specialised in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Pacifica. I am currently working in analogue fields of practice such as paper collage, hand stitching, painting in acrylic, writing, concrete poetry. I have research-based practice, leading to thoughtful, often confronting multi-layered resolved works.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner

I was born in West Auckland, New Zealand in 1968 and am currently ‘Arting’ in Tauranga.

  • In 2003 I did a Life Drawing Paper with the Victoria University.
  • In 2005 I was a finalist in the Iris Fisher Awards, prior to attending the Elam School of Fine Arts (for a number of years).
  • In 2007 I received a Bonded Merit Scholarship.
  • I was involved in a project for the Auckland City Council’s Living Room programme, and jointly part of the Auckland Art Gallery’s public programmes.
  • I have been involved in a number of exhibitions, shows and displays throughout the Auckland region over many years (details available on request).
  • In 2011 I received the Elam School of Fine Arts Scholarship and in 2012 the Denise Gerard Scholarship.
  • I graduated from University of Auckland with BFA(Hons), and a minor in Art History – specialising in the works of Aotearoa New Zealand and Pasifika.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I worked with young people as Arts co-ordinator at an Auckland school for Years 9- 13. I assisted them with prop making, critiquing performances, teacher aide and design and promotional activities.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

Part of my creative practice plan is to provide quality mentorship and support to the individual creative expression of our young people. When working with students I found my joy in helping to strengthen their individuality, their gift, whatever it was that made them unique and that they loved. My individual creative practice offers private tuition both paid, and as education equity.
