My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

A link to my website is available on request. My artwork embodies a sense of beauty and peace, exploring arrangements of urban nature and wild flora. Working from my home studio in Auckland, my everyday surroundings inspire much of my work. My paint carvings are rich and intricate, with lines carefully carved into a thick base of layered acrylic paint. My professional background in graphic design informs my work: I pride myself on creating carefully considered and balanced pieces of art, with superb attention to detail and finely honed carving skills. I enjoy the simplicity of working in duotone, and exploring the possibilities of what can be achieved with positive and negative space. My art has a beautiful handmade aesthetic, with the surface texture drawing viewers in to explore it from close up and at a distance. My design philosophy is to create tranquil art pieces that can be adored and cherished for years to come.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner

My work has been featured in a number of magazines and art shows. I also sell work in a local gallery in Nelson, and privately through my website.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I hold regular workshops in paint carving. I have helped in my children's classrooms with creative projects over the past few years. In 2023, I will be completing a collaborative mural in Onehunga with four other artists.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I have had teachers and other parents from my local community enrol in my classes and buy my artwork.  By doing a great job and expanding my practice, I'm building networks and opening doors for selling my own art. What better way than to do this working with kids, having fun and making some magic!
