My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths):

I am creative in music. I specialise in performing contemporary music, and I am also a songwriter and a performer. I produce my own songs and release them on platforms like Spotify or Apple music.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with:

I have been a creative on the Creatives in Schools programme for the first half of 2021. I’m currently working as a music teacher at a kura kaupapa. I have a diploma in Creative Music – Singer/Song Writer/Music Producer.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes:

Working with young students or children is not easy – it takes a lot of time and patience. I have noticed that children between the ages of 9 to 12 are full of potential and old enough to know what most things musical are but are still wanting to learn more.

I have worked with kids who are year 6 to year 8 aged from 10 to 12. I also sometimes mentor tertiary students. The themes that have worked for me have been to listen to the interest of the students to get an idea of what they like. Staying up to date on things like music, social media trends, etc., and merging them with music or other trends that are old.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice:

I believe that teaching the next generation is how any art will survive. By teaching young people I to will learn from it, which will make my skills evolve and make the students better creatives than the practitioner.
