My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths):
I am a printmaker and registered primary school teacher. I have strengths in both my artistic area of printmaking and in leading large groups of students through a creative journey. I am passionate about teaching students about sketching and working draft concepts through to finished artworks. I love place-based projects that respond to the local area. I can teach the correct use of tools and materials and help students to develop their artistic skills.
My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with:
I have exhibited in galleries across Canterbury, and last year was selected for a juried exhibition. I belong to a local artists’ collective and am a member of a local arts council. I have helped to plan and organise annual community exhibitions, as well as my own group exhibitions in public spaces such as the Christchurch Botanic Gardens. I have also run extension art projects in a primary school setting.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes:
I am a fully registered primary school teacher and have run art projects with students right through the primary school age groups. I have 15 years of full-time teaching experience and continue to spend time in the classroom as a casual relief teacher.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice:
This would be a great opportunity to combine my love of art with my passion for education.
