Creative ID: 672
I am based in Morningside in Auckland.
My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths):
I am a performer, creator, educator, and clown. I graduated in 2018 from Dell’Arte International School of Physical Theater, and before that spent six years in New Zealand working as a director, performer, and producer, including teaching and Assistant
Directing at the Pop-up Globe. I specialise in teaching commedia dell’arte, melodrama, clown, physical characterisation, and Shakespeare.
My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with:
Before returning to New Zealand, I taught for the Lincoln Center and People’s Theatre Project in New York, as well as running weekly drop-in clown classes. I have 8 years of teaching experience, including for Shakespeare Globe Centre New Zealand, Pop-up Globe, Victoria University, and the Wellington Homeschool Network.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes:
I recently taught in New Zealand high schools in Auckland in Shakespeare and commedia dell’arte; after teaching at a high school, I was given the following review. “Our students at our college had a great time working with ____ in specifically designed workshops focused on our year 9 speech and drama commedia unit. Very enjoyable and highly recommended.” – (February 2021). I have taught ages 5 through 18 for various institutions and have facilitated anything from one-day workshops to 8-week long residencies.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice:
I care deeply about delivering high quality arts education to young people. I immensely enjoy teaching, and I always feel like I learn as much from the students as they do from me. Teaching keeps me interested in the world and keeps me expanding my own creative practice, since I find young people endlessly inspiring.
