My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths):
I have a degree in Fine Arts (specialising in painting) and a diploma in teaching. I currently teach art one day a week for the local primary school as part of a specialist programme. Recently I worked with learners to design and create two murals that reflect our school and community and cultural narrative. I am currently working voluntarily on a Chorus cabinet with students from our local school who have designed it My strengths are working with students to design and create a work and painting.
My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with:
I have completed two murals at our local school with students involved in the design and painting process. I am currently working on two large chorus cabinets outside our school grounds. These have been designed by learners who are painting them with my guidance. I always complete projects to a high standard without compromising the work of the learners. It is not my project – it is our project.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes:
I have plenty of experience working with children of all ages. I have taught art to every age level from years 0–10. I have worked as an art teacher for approximately twenty years.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice:
I see this as an excellent opportunity to bring my experience working with learners of all ages and working in schools to other students and schools around Canterbury.
