My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths):

Our speech and drama classes inspire confidence and imagination in children, helping them to communicate effectively and build self-belief that helps them succeed in life. While having fun of course! These exciting classes are tailor-made for building confidence, individual growth, and learning. Kids learn to speak more confidently, communicate more effectively, improve their listening skills and use their imaginations. These skills and the confidence they give build their self-belief.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with:

We have been successfully providing speech and drama lessons in Auckland schools since 2016. Over that time, we have taught over 740 students. Our lessons cover public speaking – impromptu, prepared, persuasive, special occasion; acting skills – reading out loud, script, devising, improvisation; effective communication – telephone, interpersonal; body language – eye contact, posture; vocal skills – voice, speech, articulation, grammar; poetry; and storytelling.

Students have the option of sitting Speech New Zealand or Trinity Speech and Drama exams as part of their lessons. These lessons are a terrific way to build the character, confidence, and communication skills of the students, while having fun and using creativity! Lessons are typically 45 minutes to an hour depending on the student’s age and are run in a classroom type area. We offer in-class time lessons. These can be as part of your curriculum or as an additional activity. It is a model we use successfully, where we rotate schedules to respect the need for students to not miss ‘core' or too many regular lessons, and classroom ‘pick-ups’ and ‘drop-offs’ by our tutors ensure that the teacher is not inconvenienced in any way.

Here are a some of comments about our school: “I cannot thank you enough for the opportunity to be part of something as amazing as your school, it was definitely the highlight of my school year and has taught me so much in terms of confidence, speaking, and acting. I can’t wait for it to start again.” (Student)

“Magical, inspiring, and extraordinary.”

“___ is one of the best children’s speech and drama teachers working in New Zealand today.” (NZ Herald)

“He got up and spoke in front of the school. He would never have done that before.” (Mother)

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice:

We would like to be able to offer our programme to a wider group of schools. Partnering with schools through this programme will allow us to do this.
