Project name: Bringing our new Māori Cultural Narrative to life 2023
Creative name:
Project Information:
In 2022 Bayfield High School received our Cultural Narrative, a beautifully crafted booklet complied by Ngāi Tahu mana whenua from Ōtākou and Puketeraki marae. Full of purakau, history and stunning imagery of our local environment, this taonga is a prime teaching and learning tool to develop understanding of matauraka Māori and our own local history.
Our kaupapa is to bring this tāonga to life through research, performance and strong aspects of visual design and that will remain part of our kura as we move forward into this new era of understanding our nation’s past. This will allow the school to make connections with Mana whenua and sail forth into the new curriculum of the future.
The project aims to guide a select group of junior and senior students from Art and Textiles. The students will be guided through our cultural narrative and translate it into a variety of creative outcomes that will be displayed permanently at the school.
The final outcome could be converted to digital images and used as part of the schools promotional material within the whole school and its community. This would allow the images to have longevity.
Project starting: February 2023
