My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

My creative practices heavily revolve around a street dance style called 'Krump' it is a free and expressive dance style which pulls a person's creativity from their emotions, imagination and expression. My specific focus for this art is to show the youth that everyone individual is different and unique. I want to make it known to youth that being creative and showing their individual ideas is OK and something we should not shy away from. I want to give youth another outlet and free form of bringing their creativity to life through dance and body movements. I can teach this through my 11 years of experience and practices within this art form called Krump.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

  • Six-week creative programme with a College. Helping with assessments as well as helping the at-risk kids with giving them a new form of outlet and a safer way of self-expression.
  • Have taught multiple open workshops around Wellington and Auckland for all ages.
  • Taught at a summer camp in Pennsylvania, USA in 2015.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I have taught multiple workshops with students from 10 years old up to 20+ years old. I have run national events which have youth divisions involved for kids to participate. I have worked with students from a College in Wellington from ages 13 years to 17 years.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I want to give the youth in schools a different form of outlet than what is already given. I want to show that freely expressing one's emotions (negative or positive) through this art form called Krump is OK and safe. I want to give the youth another direction and/or pathway into releasing their inner creativity and expression. I want to teach the youth what I have learnt through personal experiences and open doors which could possibly help speed up their process of reaching their goals and gaining success within their chosen art form.
