My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

Kia ora, I'm an Auckland-based visual artist who has over 10 years of experience teaching and working with youth and young people through the creative arts field, which is where my passion lies. I'm about to graduate from my visual arts degree in a couple of months, which I specialised in lens-based media - photography and videography. I've also been facilitating and teaching a very successful arts programme for ages 10+. I try and connect my work always back to the community. I'm just working on a hiphop and street magazine. I also do video work.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I have been teaching dance since 2008 in various one-off workshops as well as in term blocks in dance studios. I taught mainly young people. In 2010 -2011 I was in Korea where I was an English teacher for an intermediate boys public school where I taught all 1,000+ students of that school. I planned all my own lessons. Class size was around 30 students. I also won a best teacher award when I taught there. Since 2015 I have been a regular tutor for break dancing (where I co-teach with another tutor) and since 2018 an art tutor as well. Class sizes are always around 14 which is the maximum capacity. Again I plan all my classes and curriculum for the kids. Both classes are very successful, hence the long time I was able to keep teaching there.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

Because I'm good with young people and I get excited thinking about creating things together with them, with technical skills and curriculum plans to back it up. I would love to share what I have and create an amazing, safe, and positive space for them to support them in finding out what they like and develop their skills in visual arts.
