Art form: Ngā Toi Māori / Whakairo
Project name: Moehuri
Project information: Our students will be involved in a creative process of designing and carving Pou Whenua with the guidance and expertise of our Matua. Students will learn how to use the chisel and patu to carve the designs that reflect the story of Mangonui. These Pou will tell our unique story of Moehuri, Tukiata and the Taniwha Shark (Mangonui). This is an authentic project that is linked to our local community. This pou will support student understanding of where they come from (Mangonui Far North) and who they are; it will help to consolidate their identity. Our school is committed to using the 'Relationship Based Learning Profile'. This project is about connecting our young people with their language and culture.
Project starting: February 2021
