My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a multi-media artist. My strengths are printing, painting, predominantly working in oils and recently working with acrylics. I also work with clay creating various ceramic forms, which also includes drawing onto clay tiles and small sculptures. I focus on the everyday in connection with the land we live in and its cultures, creating social and political commentary. My work also has an obvious use of parody throughout.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I am a well-established artist with a lengthy record of solo and group exhibitions in both public and dealer galleries nationwide. I have been a practising artist for 20 years plus.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I studied at Massey University and graduated with a teaching diploma secondary. I completed one year of my residency teaching art to students from year nine through to year thirteen. It was an amazing year where I had to do all the budgeting and create all the programmes for the year from scratch, as it was a small school I was on my own, it was a great experience. Sadly, I was laid off before the holidays and when the next year came around and was asked to return I was otherwise employed somewhere else. I also did some relief work at primary level. I created and ran after-school and holiday programmes for children's art classes. where the children learnt about storytelling using clay to make dioramas set to a theme. They also learnt about drawing, screen printing, and paint. I also took adult evening classes. I would do this again if and when a venue comes available. I have a current exhibition of work in an art gallery where students were encouraged to create work in connection with the exhibition. I thoroughly enjoy sharing my knowledge.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

The experiences that I have had as a teacher have taught me that I have a passion to share my knowledge. I am interested in helping the youth of today so they can have learning experiences from the front line.
