My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I have been a full-time Artist now for the past five years. Emerging from the underground graffiti scene my medium of choice is aerosol. However I have experimented with many different mediums and processes thought my career. Acrylic and oil paints. Pen, pencil and charcoal for sketches, along with wood-burning and sculpture. I have worked along side the New Plymouth District Council on numerous occasions now, either to produce large-scale murals throughout the CBD, backdrops for theatre shows or on art installations for events. One of my biggest achievements to date would be my Artist in residence in Singapore and South Korea. These experiences have been surreal. I get such a buzz from engaging and motivating students. I connect really well with kids and love passing on my skills and knowledge. This has always been one of my strengths.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

Over my years of being an artist I have run several workshops with children as young as 4 up to young adults. I have run workshops in schools, for council projects and private workshops in my studio. I have also had the privilege of being part of community art projects, where I generally produce a mural. I tend to work with members of the community to produce the final image. I either collaborate with them or use their ideas as inspiration for the final image.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

Because I want help inspire future creatives on their endeavours, because I'm living proof that it can be done. It's important for me to pass on my knowledge to the younger generation, so they can learn from my experiences. I want to give them the support and push that I never had. When I see someone get inspired through my experiences it gives me even more reason to continue to do what I do. Inspires my next creation.
