Project name: Exploring Piet Mondrian through glass
Creative name:
Project Information:
The main aim of this programme is to explore the life and work of Piet Mondrian through glass. This is a fully integrated art, science, and history-based inquiry, that will inspire students to explore and show case their own artistic flair through the medium of glass, whilst echoing the work of Mondrian. Not only will students learn about this famous artist, they will also learn the skills and science of glass-fusing; a unique art medium with skills that carry over into other parts of life. All students work will be included in an exhibition. No child will be left out; we hope it will give all students including those who may struggle in core curriculum areas other opportunities to excel and feel satisfaction and confident.
The work of artist Piet Mondrian was chosen for this project as his abstract art using geometric shapes and primary colours lends itself well to replication in glass and will appeal to children and adults. After completion of their individual pieces, the senior classes will be split in to four groups. Each will design and create a larger collaborative piece for the school.
An exhibition largely planned by the senior students will celebrated the end of the programme. This is a chance for the children be proud, celebrate their achievements and showcase their work to friends and family. They will get an insight into how art can lead to a successful career, and this will be further explored through a field trip with senior students.
Project starting: July 2023
