Creative name:
Project information: Rawene School has an opportunity to work with a well-respected and multi-talented resident artist in the community. Our creative is a musician, (piano, guitar and vocal tutor), a toi whakairo artist, and a fluent te reo Māori speaker. He has strong ties with our school and community. He worked with a group of boys in the school in 2013 to create a carved pou that stands proudly in the school main office foyer today.
All students in the school will be involved in the creative process of designing and creating contemporary pou whenua with the guidance and expertise of our creative. These pou whenua will reflect the school values and reflect the uniqueness of our community relationships, the environment, tauiwi, and the standing of tangata whenua. The school values are Excellence (Hiranga), Equity (Mana), Respect (Rangatiratanga), Guardianship (Kaitiakitanga), Innovation (Te Hiringa), and Integrity (Tumaia).
This project meets the goals of Te Manu Kawariki Kāhui Ako (Hokianga Community of Learning), to continue to build educationally strong connections and partnerships with parents, families, whānau, and community (in particular, with Māori parents, whānau, iwi, and hapū). As a school, we are committed to using the Relationship-based Learning Profile (Cognition Education) to create a family-like context for learning by caring and nurturing the learner, including their language and culture. All five key competencies are embedded in this authentic learning experience for our children (relating to others, participating and contributing, using language and symbols, managing self, and thinking).
Project starting: February 2022
