Project information: As a result of participating in the project, ākonga will: 

  • learn skills in all areas of the arts, including drama, dance, music, and visual arts 
  • develop wairuatanga through a sense of well-being derived from inclusion in dramatic arts activities, especially for linguistically diverse students 
  • express themselves creatively 
  • build a toolkit to aid resilience and raise confidence developing a sense of self-worth, particularly helpful for children with social or learning challenges 
  • grow their key competencies through the use of language, symbols, and texts in relation to oral and written language activities and the design of costumes and set 
  • develop important life skills linking to well-being 
  • acquire an appreciation of the arts 
  • learn to manage themself in a setting which may have feelings of calm and chaos
  • relate to others through the cooperative skills involved in small group workshops and a large group performance 
  • participate and contribute to a collaborative school performance where each child has a role 
  • develop empathy, emotional intelligence, and collaboration 
  • feel a sense of achievement and self-worth through their involvement in the programme 
  • develop an understanding of the opportunities creative arts offers in terms of career options, in their daily lives, and for pleasure.
