Whangara School
Region: Bay of Plenty / Waiariki
Art form: Ngā toi Māori / Visual Arts
Project name: Te Pārekereke o Whāngārā
Project information: Te Pārekereke o Whāngārā is the place of joining all of our kōrero, whakapapa together to a place of success.
Our project will be led by our creative in collaboration with our ākonga, kaiako, and whānau to create visual murals, based on our kōrero, narratives of Ngāti Konohi which will be inspired by Whitireia, and our whare whakairo in Whāngārā. She will deepen the understanding of our whānau through learning in specific Māori art forms, such as kōwhaiwhai and tukutuku to develop skills in painting, colours and telling a story through their murals. The murals and kōwhaiwhai will be placed on our new buildings, which will be onsite this year or early next year, to bring a connectedness to all of our buildings, to strengthen 'Te Pārekereke o Whāngārā'.
Project starting: May 2021
