Art form: Theatre
Project name: An inter-generational exploration of cultural diversity
Creative name: Nicola Pauling
Project information: Grandmothers and granddaughters will creatively explore together the importance of cultural identity, what shapes our identity and how that has changed over the last 50 to 70 years. What has been lost over those decades, what has been gained and is there a shared hope for what the future holds for wāhine in Aotearoa.
This inter-generational project will guide and support the women to devise an original performance piece that will reflect (1) the discoveries they make together, (2) the influence and impact they have on each other during this time, (3) a co-created shared vision for the future, and (4) a challenge to audiences on how that future can be created.
This project offers our students an exceptional opportunity to see themselves as part of a family lineage of stories and life experiences. Each generation influences the next but often young people are unaware of how profound this connection affects our sense of self and therefore our potency in the world.
