Project name: Whakamana Taiohi Raranga
Project information: The project will bring the art of weaving into the lives of students. The aim is for students to practise their culture through connecting to the creative art of weaving, and through weaving connect the school to the health and wellbeing of the community and to cultural narratives of the area of Wainuiomata and local iwi. The project has the following goals:
- Through weaving te ao Māori is a strong part of the identity of students participating.
- Through weaving students experience the development of creative expression and creative freedom.
- Through weaving students and the school make stronger connections to whānau Māori and to the marae in Wainuiomata.
- Students learn about the local iwi and taiao/environment and construct works that represent a cultural narrative to embed within the new school buildings and works that can be shared with the community.
