Tikipunga High School
Region: Tai Tokerau
Art form: Multi-Disciplinary / Circus
Project name: Te Putahitanga Circus
Creative name: Lisa Fugmann, Achmed Abman
Project information: Te Putahitanga Circus will provide circus classes for 34 students with special needs from Tikipunga High School, along with potentially 15-45 RTLB students from Whangarei.
Our school’s key purpose of schooling is to enable students to cast their nets so that they can be successful learners, reach their personal potential and be purposeful, productive and caring members of society.
Our students have a very short attention span, and working with students who have autism, ADHD, significant behaviour issues, along with high end special needs students, and to have them concentrate for any length of time on any particular project is challenging.
With Circability we will have students juggling, on the pedalo moving forward, moving balloons, throwing up scarves into the air turning around and pretending to be on the high wire ... and watching the faces of their parents, who have seen their child perform in a public arena never having done this before, will be priceless.
Project starting: January 2021
