Project name: Mana Whakapapa
Project information: Ākonga will learn to express their whakapapa visually and in writing in te reo Māori. They will also learn to locate themselves through conventions of toi ataata within the local whenua, and in relation to each other.
Project 1: Students will create their own puka which explores their own whakapapa and emphasises the mana and integrity of their own identity. Their puka can become a family tāonga. Ākonga will reflect on and utilise elements of toi ataata. Ākonga will learn to utilise mixed-media to create their puka.
Project 2: Ākonga will have the opportunity to explore ngā toi ataata within a tuakana-teina environment in te reo Māori, creating a mural which expresses the whakapapa o te Kura o Takaro, locating ākonga within local whenua, while also acknowledging their own whakapapa, as well as the integrity of their relationships.
These projects assist ākonga to express the four hau of our marautanga a kura.
