TKKM o Te Whanau Tahi
Region: Canterbury
Art form: Ngā toi Māori
Project name: Kā Pākihi Whakatekateka o Waitaha
Project information: This kaupapa is an integrated unit of work where students study the iwi history and tikanga of local Mana Whenua within the "Ngā Pākihi Whakatekateka o Waitaha" kaupapa.
Students will have an opportunity to work with local kaumatua and experts in the local traditions and pūrakau of Waitaha. Students will also visit local sites of significance, embedding the traditional kōrero, view the natural landscape and also experience the environment and gain inspiration from being in those areas.
Students will then work in the artistic interpretation of their learning through a "Mahi Toi Māori" creative in order to produce a collaborative artistic piece or pieces that captures this knowledge. Art pieces will be displayed at a Mahi Toi – Art Exhibition once the work has been finished.
Project starting: May 2021
