Selwyn Park School
Region: Tai Tokerau
Artform: Multi-Disciplinary / Circus
Project name: Circus At The Park
Creative name: Tania Whetu Bracey-Brown, Rikki Paul Livermore, Mattew Ocean Beere
Project information: The project will provide fun, artistic expression and physical activity to a wide range of youth, who then have the opportunity to join other programmes and shows to continue developing their skill sets. Circus teaches not just tricks that build physical coordination and allow youth to creatively express themselves, but also teamwork, communication, determination and confidence. In this project, students will be taught a range of different props – juggling, flower sticks, hula hoop and poi.
At the end of the term, students will produce a show for friends and whānau to attend. They will have the choice to develop their own act (either individually or as a small group) or be part of the class acts performing a choreography that showcases the techniques learned in the programme.
Project starting: February 2021
