Renwick School
Region: Nelson / Marlborough
Art form: Ngā toi Māori / Raranga
Project name: Te Pā Wānanga
Project information: Our project is aligned to support our Māori world view; to give the opportunity to our tamariki and whānau for creative, cultural exploration using natural materials; to revive the knowledge and practice of artistic creation by using such materials; to create our own solutions in doing so and to pass this cultural creative knowledge onto future generations as captured within the whakataukā.
Our project purpose is to work alongside our expert weaver and expose our tamariki to being able to create beautiful pieces of toi Māori using natural materials we will grow in our own kura/marae space. The understanding of associated art techniques, alongside the sustainable provision of our native regional flora and fauna will revive and sustain the indigenous artistic knowledge and skills of our people and enable us to craft our own creative environment.
Project starting: February 2021
