Rangikura School
Region: Wellington
Art form: Music
Project name: Violins in Schools
Creative name: Liz Sneyd, Rebecca Murphy
Project information: Violins in Schools will provide opportunities to learn the violin that our students would not usually be able to access. This gives our learners expert music tuition, in a way that is not catered for already in our school's music curriculum. The students take a violin home and this not only allows opportunities for practice, but also develops links with whānau and their children's kura.
Students will be able to join a youth orchestra that encompasses all our Porirua Community. The orchestra has been going a long time, and having youth playing and performing in the orchestra is inspiration for our tamariki, demonstrating where a love of music can take a child. This community orchestra role models not only music, but where commitment, perseverance and passion can lead.
Other schools involved: Tairangi School / Postgate School / Corinna School
