Ormiston Junior College
Region: Auckland
Art form: Visual Arts / Comics
Project name: Comics for Change
Project information: Students will build narrative capacity, the ability to understand and work with narratives, and creativity through co-creation of mini-comics focused on science narratives. Over 10 weeks, students will investigate and deconstruct problematic science narratives (for example, that an individual cannot make a difference to climate change) within their communities and create alternative narratives through collaborative comics. Displayed in a public exhibition, these new narratives will create impact in the wider community and build links between Ormiston Junior College (OJC) and the Auckland art landscape.
This project provides an authentic learning experience for students because it enables them to investigate real stories in their community and empowers them to create meaningful change.
Project starting: May 2021
