Project name: Michael Park School taonga wananga
Project information: Students will research and respond to traditional Māori artworks. The artworks will be viewed from a variety of sources: a museum visit, books and the internet. Students will be engaged in a series of workshops and will learn research, literacy, and practical skills, as well as strengthen their personal cultural identity through art making.
Students will work collaboratively to create a community-based art project that will be a contemporary approach to celebrating traditional Māori art forms.
