Lower Moutere School
Region: Nelson / Marlborough
Art form: Ngā Toi Māori / Whakairo
Project name: Toi tu te kupu, toi tu te mana, toi tu te whenua
Project information: We plan to utilise the ‘Creatives in Schools’ initiative to present the development of our school’s Cultural Narrative, and be a living monument to the narrative of our kura, for years to come.
The creative learning experience will enhance students’ wellbeing, improve their core competencies in communication, collaboration and creative thinking, and inspire their awareness of careers in the arts and creative sectors. It will also be the main focus for us to be able to tell 'our story'.
This art project represents all the Kahui Ako schools, and is reflective of all the schools in this region, and our place in Te Tai Ihu. We wish to utilise this skill set to develop 10 panels that, through mahi toi, illustrate the rich stories of our land, and present these through our school so that students gain an understanding of our cultural narrative.
Project starting: February 2021
