Bellevue School (Newlands)
Region: Wellington
Art form: Multi-Disciplinary
Project name: Moana Whisper
Project information: We will work with our creative to explore ways to repurpose waste as wearable art through the design of costumes, set and props. This project will culminate with the students’ creations being showcased in a 'Wearable Art Celebration' – the school's production for the year. We intend to base this work around the concept of kaitiakitanga – guardianship of the sky, land and sea (though with particular focus on the sea). Students will extend and build on learning they are currently involved in with the Wellington Waste Heroes project (with a focus in particular on the land). They will continue to explore ways in which they can respect and protect the earth as a taonga and develop their awareness of the impact of their actions on the environment.
Project starting: March 2021
