Outcomes for students and ākonga: Students increased their historical and cultural knowledge of their awa, iwi, and local community. They developed a strong sense of belonging and connection to the community they live in and are now kaitiaki of their local knowledge. They really enjoyed and understood the creative process.

Outcomes for teachers and kaiako: The school grounds have been beautified in a meaningful way. The school developed better connections with iwi and local historians. The local curriculum has been strengthened and the project has been a great model for the design of engaging projects for learners.

Outcomes for creative: The creative developed and enhanced her connections with the school and community with iwi and local support. Her knowledge of the local area has been invaluable. She connected with the ākonga in an ongoing and meaningful way, providing critical thinking and artistic experiences as well as friendship and leadership.

Outcomes for parents and whānau: Parents and whānau supported the mural project by showing their interest in the concept and the progress. They were very much present at the whakatuwheratanga despite the rain! They now have a greater awareness of creative career pathways especially as the creative is an ex-student. Not only do they see her work in town and her studio, they have really appreciated her positive and productive relationships with the ākonga during the project.
