My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

Hi, I am a sketch artist interested in teaching, urban sketching, portrait sketching, architectural sketching, drawing both conventional and performance-based, as well as ethnography and community arts. I run sketch classes on a daily basis. I am available to schools to teach sketching, art and creative pedagogy.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I am a practising artist, selling my work each week, through portraiture, commissions and though my online store where I am also selling design work. I teach through a meetup group with about 105 members. I began sketching on the streets of Rio de Janeiro 15 years ago, where I also attended an atelier school learning the basics of alla prima painting. I currently work in ink, charcoal, graphite and watercolour on paper.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I have been teaching adults, teens and children for 15 years in Brazil and China. Most of my time in Brazil was working with business people, but I did work with teens and children. In China I worked in public schools and taught English to children of all ages from 8 through to 15-year-olds. I have studied pedagogy all of my teaching life, and really enjoy the work of Paulo Freire and critical pedagogy. I practice creative pedagogy though my work as a sketch artist and teacher, as I believe this pedagogy has a lot to offer the community, as well as providing children and adults with a new way of seeing.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I want to share my knowledge. I have the experience as both a teacher and artist, and have studied creative pedagogy, to be an asset to any school. I have taught in different cultures with students of all ages from Korea, Brazil, China, Saudi Arabia and Russia, so I have a wonderful understanding and empathy for a wide range of people. In my opinion, my experience and creative practice are a wonderful fit for the Creatives in Schools programme.
