St Clair School
Region: Otago / Southland
Art form: Craft/object / textile
Project name: Mixed Media Wall Hanging to Celebrate 125 Years of St Clair School
Project information: St Clair School will celebrate its 125th anniversary in 2021. Students will explore our school's history and express their ideas through a variety of learning areas including reading, researching, interviewing past students, writing, drama, dance and music. This project will be the highlight of our visual arts programme for the year.
The outcome of the project will be a mixed media wall hanging to be displayed in the heart of our school, Te Manawanui. Using the symbol of a tree as a starting point, representing the past (roots), present (trunk and branches) and future (leaves and fruit), our students, staff and community will mahi together to explore textile art and produce a lasting artefact to commemorate this important year.
The creative journey will have as much significance and benefit to the children as the outcome. The project will be child-centred to give all students in the school ownership and an appreciation of the value of art in our environment.
Project starting: May 2021
