Region: Nelson / Marlborough / West Coast
Art form: Pacific Arts / Performing Arts
Project name: Pasifika Proud
Creative name: Tevita Vaka
Project information: This project will provide the opportunity for schools in Marlborough to learn Pacific Performing Arts from a local creative. We would like to continue to develop our Pacific Performing Arts learning experience, which aims to foster creativity, culture and collaboration. This programme brings together students from diverse backgrounds into a common platform to understand a Pacific worldview and explore cultural understandings and context through Pacific Heritage Arts. The group will work towards an inter-school performance.
With this programme taking place in multiple schools across Marlborough, the regional approach demonstrates strong modelling of the importance of Pacific identity, culture and language and how this can be strengthened within students learning.
Other schools involved: Bohally Intermediate, Mayfield School, Blenheim School, Whitney Street School, Redwoodtown School
