Outcomes for students and ākonga: Students had the opportunity to explore an artist’s work in detail, as well as observe and understand the process she undertook to complete a work through to exhibition. Students developed resilience as this detailed artwork was developed over time and required fine motor skills and patience. They learned several stitching techniques to create texture and interest in their piece.
Outcomes for teachers and kaiako: Teachers established a strong connection and relationship with the creative Fleur. They observed an artist at work and the process she followed to develop an artwork and the way she scaffolded students to create their artworks. Teacher saw how students can succeed when their artworks are developed from a known artist.
Outcomes for creative: The creative developed a strong working relationship with children and teachers. She established relationships with school whānau through sharing students’ artworks at a local exhibition and extended community networks. She also developed her project management skills.
Outcomes for parents and whānau: Attendance at the exhibition was high and parents were genuinely appreciative of the experience their children have received. The fact that the artist is a parent has also been positively received.
