I have over 20 years' experience teaching clay to kids of all ages. Over the last 13 years that I have been living in Christchurch I have offered my passion and enthusiasm for clay to as many schools or educational establishments that would have me. I have often wondered and contemplated how I could reach and teach teachers how to incorporate clay into the classrooms as I have often seen the benefits this practice can bring to kids. I obtained a ceramics degree in Central school of Art in my early 20s. Once I became a parent, I stopped exhibiting my work and became the Arty mum forever helping my kids schools with various projects. I have various teachers that would act as referees. I am not great at filling forms!

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I believe that by allowing kids to explore and experiment with creativity as much as possible we provide with a platform to relax and accept the process, which in turn helps them reduce their anxieties. I am a firm believer in having a go teaching them that what they create is unique and not mass produced. As to how it would link to my creative practice? It would expand what I have been offering for the last 30 years! I care about these youngsters and their mental well-being! So being part of something larger would be the icing on the cake!
