My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)
I'm a Producer/Director/Sound Designer who graduated with a degree in Film from Victoria University in 2014. Since then, I have been working as a professional artist in various capacities in the film and music industries. My creative practice is about attempting to create genuinely Kiwi art in urban and rural spaces, so I've collaborated with musicians, fashion designers, poets, and other local artists to try and express these ideas in a cinematic way. In particular, I'm interested in creating more efficient productions that maximise Kiwis' natural aptitude for innovation while allowing us to demonstrate the unique cultures of our country. The project I'm most proud of so far is a feature film musical that I self-funded and produced.

While I've never worked with schools or kura before, I've always wanted to share my creative abilities with the community and I'd be keen to take this kind of opportunity. I received specialised training in Film and Music Technology from Victoria University and graduated with a degree in Film in 2014. I'm a currently practicing artist and I've received recognition from peers and some critical success for my work as a Sound Designer, as many of the projects that I've worked on in this capacity have been played at film festivals both locally and overseas.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes
I don't have a lot of experience working with children or young people, except as actors in my productions, but I have facilitated many creative processes as a film producer and have a very good understanding of how to plan and achieve a project within a set time and budget. I'm also very experienced in conflict management from my time dealing with artists as a producer. In addition to this, I spent a year working as a Team Leader for a company that provided advanced technical support for Apple products. This role required me to train and teach technology to adults of all ages, especially young people between the ages of 16-25.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice
The reason I'd like to take part in this programme is that I was fortunate to get a lot of opportunities to talk to artists when I was in school and I'd like to help children who are currently in school have similar experiences. In particular, I'd like to help children to get a realistic sense of what it takes to be a practicing artist and offer them the opportunity to grow their own skills in a supportive environment. As for how it will link to my creative practice, one of the things I'm most passionate about is telling genuinely Kiwi stories and I think that getting a chance to interact with the next generation of Kiwis would enable me to help them learn to tell their stories in an achievable way.
