My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a Year 1 teacher who has always enjoyed being involved in anything 'arts' offered at my workplace. In the past I have been in charge of creating backdrops for productions and musicals, decorating the hall for prizegivings, etc. I enjoy supporting students in creating artworks and have entered competitions like the "Eye on Nature". In my free time, I enjoy sketching and drawing, especially facial features or doing crafts. This year I have offered to start an art club during lunchtimes, but I feel that I would benefit from support, to give our students the best opportunities and to introduce an effective art curriculum and to be able to introduce different art forms and to integrate culture into our programme. Please see my creatives in schools portfolio (available on request).

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

  • Recognition from peers
  • Acknowledgement from co-teachers and leadership at my school
  • Previously successful projects such as  backdrops for production (2017) and musical (2019)
  • Currently drawing and painting backdrop for our 2020 production
  • Practical experiences include sketching and crafts in my free time, working with students on projects, eg. 'Eye on Nature' and decor for school events.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

Experience includes mostly class art projects and artwork with ages from Y0 to Y4. Also art club for students Y6 to 8, with themes mostly around drawing or making objects. For art club, I would introduce an art element and the art planned would be around the element introduced.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I feel that our school and I would benefit from the Creatives in Schools programme, to give our students the best opportunities, to introduce an effective art curriculum, to be able to introduce different art forms and to integrate culture into our programme.
