My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

Hi, I'm a resident artist at a creative hub. I have painted my own paintings, drawings and murals as well as working on two ongoing mural programmes with a local community organisation and college. These programmes consisted of me coming into schools every week to paint murals with the students. These murals were student-led ideas, with my input as to how best make those ideas come to life. It is my intention to continue these mural programmes to encourage more involvement in the arts in Tauranga. Links to more information are available on request.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

  • Mural programme with local community organisation including an exhibition (ages 13 to 16)
  • Ongoing mural programme at a local college with public instalment (ages 14 to 17)
  • Resident artist at a creative hub
  • Christmas present boxes for the council
  • Workshops with several organisations.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

  • Kids holiday programme and after school care (ages 5 to 13)
  • Other experience is outlined above.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

When I was in college everyone around me said that I was talented in visual arts; but at the time I lacked the confidence to pursue art as a career, due to there not being many opportunities for me. I want to provide high quality art programmes that will engage students and develop their skills so that they can have the confidence to pursue a career in the arts. Helping young people develop in this way will ultimately have a huge positive impact on the local culture of Tauranga and the wider culture of New Zealand.
