My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a freelance children’s book illustrator. I work primarily digitally to create detailed illustrations for children’s publishing, advertising and marketing projects. A link to my portfolio website is available on request.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I have produced illustration work for books which are currently being published in Australia and the USA. I have also produced work for an advertising campaign for a well-known New Zealand charity.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I work in children’s publishing and illustration, so that is a theme that young people may be interested in. While I was studying at University, I worked at a rock-climbing centre in Auckland as a rock-climbing instructor. Most of the people who came to rock climb were children or teenagers. So, I had experience coaching them to learn to climb, and supervising them in a high-risk situation.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

As a children’s illustrator I think my creative practice would benefit hugely from gaining a better understanding of the lives and interests of children and young people today. I think all creativity has the wonderful potential to forge new connections in a community. I also think that I have something special to contribute to young people’s education. I work in a newly emerging craft (digital illustration) which many people may not understand as a future career option without being exposed to it.
