Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I have taught the children’s holiday programme at The Arts Village in Rotorua. Age 5–12. I really enjoyed teaching the younger 5–7 group various crafts and loved teaching the 8–12 years about abstract art. I have taught various workshops for all ages 12–16 in different techniques, with and without parents present.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I believe everyone needs art in their lives, especially children. Being creative has so many benefits and is essential for a child's well-being. It helps for stress relief, improves coordination and observation skills, provides inspiration, enlivens, explores science of colour, structure and composition, it engages the imagination, helps improve other academic subjects. Gives the child the tools to have a creative outlet. I love sharing my art knowledge and love that moment when a child creates something they are proud of, to be a part of a child’s artistic journey is a gift.
