My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am primarily an illustrator, however I also do realism, drawing, painting and sculpture. I love concept art, creating characters and bringing them to life through drawing and sculpture; model making would definitely interest me to teach. I am experienced in teaching jewellery making from working at a summer camp. I also have digital and technical skills to offer as developed through my postgraduate Industrial Design study. Further information is available on my website (on request).

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I have a Bachelor of Design in Applied Visual Arts, winning the Excellence Award for Visual Art. Also a Post-Graduate Diploma in Industrial Design. I have two summer’s experience teaching metal shop/ jewellery making at an American Summer camp. I was a finalist for the Adams Portrait Award and a finalist for the Young Innovator Award at Melbourne Fashion Week.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I spent two summers in Maine, USA teaching metal shop and jewellery-making at a sleep-away camp. I taught girls aged 7 to 16, in small classes of about 10 kids. I was also a counselor to the eldest girls aged 15 to 16 who I looked after for both years. I also filled in teaching when possible in the ceramics, drawing, painting and printmaking classes.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

Something I am wanting to pursue in my art career is to write and illustrate picture books, and being involved with an artistic program would greatly benefit my ability to capture the creativity and interest of kiwi kids. I want to be a part of this programme because I miss teaching from my experience in America and I would love to use my artist skills to motivate creativity.
