My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

As an artist I strive to create objects that affect the vibration of a space, creating and connecting to the tools to do so is the strength of my practice, learning and experiencing the processes our ancestors developed allows students to comprehend the highly technically engineering and effectiveness of tools such as toki/adze, whao/chisel, tuwiri/drill encapsulating its beauty in its functional application. Pre-Europe technology and processing natural resources will be the focus. Academically covering information from geology, horticulture, physics, environmental conservation, history, culture, maths, engineering and arts. Mediums covered include wood, stone, fibre, pigments and design. The Aim is to demonstrate ... beauty in function highlighting the inherit intellectual and esoteric origins of pre-contact Māori DNA. Objective, to counter transfer to each student their responsibility to the own DNA's inherit intellectual capability. OUTCOME, each student will comprehend the depth of our ancestors' philosophical foundation strengthening self-confidence and the confidence to technically push the tools application. I am truly honoured to have Māori DNA, my strength is sourcing and manufacturing natural resources to create extremely effective technologies/tools including being able to articulate clearly both historical and academic research that supports the practical evidence of our inherit intelligence.

I have both government and council commissioned public art works: at the entrance of a library, a public sculpture in collaboration with a primary school and a New Zealand artist, a gateway entrance to public pools in collaboration with a college and creative communities. For the past 20 years I've been supported by a member of fledgling trust Devonport to produce and deliver art programmes within my community. Began with being represented by a gallery with my first public exhibition funded by Creative New Zealand as the main galleries exhibition artist and was rated as NZ's top exhibition recommendation by an art critic every day for five consecutive weeks. Have also had extensive international travel for both research an exhibition purposes.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

As an artist I have always produced education programmes for both the community and schools, I believe art is the most powerful platform to educate, inspire and empower all ages ... I've produced and delivered art programmes for many schools. A community centre after-school programme and a community anti-graffiti programme designed to educate graphic design, public murals, air brush and screen printing technology including objects and apparel.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I love collaboration as much as the creative process of Art. My mentor and friend, when he began teaching me a lot of what I know made me promise that I would find a way share it with as many people as possible knowing first-hand how powerfully humbling and healing the information and skills he had gifted me. As an artist I want to highlight social issues for example our education system has a top human authority which creates a dog-eat-dog mentality within society, within Māori philosophy there is no human authority the only authority was the body of knowledge each individual added to strengthen efficiency and function. As an artist I love this opportunity I have to make people think and question and engage. Many practitioners I know are scared to share their skills in fear that someone will steal their ideas and works ... For me I believe that if I teach someone what I know and they add their skill and flare it should obviously be better which doesn't make me scared but more competitive ... And that I truly believe will push us to always learn and always evolve.
