My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)
I teach Drama and Piano lessons in schools. I believe in a holistic approach that connects the student to their passion and encourages a love for what they do. I have over 20 years of teaching experience - I have taught students in productions, piano exams, and speech exams. My core belief in teaching is based around FUN and being CREATIVE!
My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with
I have been playing piano since I was 3 years old and in Wellington studied at the New Zealand School of music. I was trained also as a Drama teacher under the Helen O'Grady Drama Academy. I have taught in Wellington and can provide references of the Helen O'Grady programme and the schools I have taught at.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes
I have taught for over 20 years now and I own my own business providing all ages (3-65 years) Piano and Drama classes. I have assisted in school productions, various end-of-year productions for Drama. I also have put together many concerts for students on the piano, young and old. Themes I have enjoyed have covered topics around bullying, anxiety tools, and how to be comfortable presenting.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice
To be able to link into the community that cannot afford to pay privately would be so beneficial for all students and myself. I believe in making a difference in young peoples lives using music and drama as the stepping stone to do this.
