My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

My practice involves my exploration in Paint and Digital. I am concerned with challenging the historically submissive nature of women in Portraiture, bringing focus to ‘ The Ascent of Women’ – the strength and empowerment of the Feminine. My strengths are Painting, Design and Photography, having taught all three disciplines to Scholarship Level over a period of years. My subject matter being the feminine presdisposes me to want to work with and teach girls, as I enjoy encouraging young women reach and fulfill their potential.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

I have attached a number of references that describe how I teach, how I interact with staff and students, how successful my students have been under my guidance and my specialist areas which are teaching to Scholarship Level Design, Painting and Photography over the years. I have collaborated with many schools, have taught overseas, run my own Departments; have been an expert Marker for the Ministry of Education and led Staff Developments in Scholarship. I am a full-time practising Artist who has had many shows in Auckland, have been a Finalist in many National awards have work in part of many collections, Internationally and Nationally. I readily and easily collaborates with others and engages young people to reach their full potential. At present I am teaching a young woman with her Folio developments, who wants to reach Scholarship Photography this year. (Please request my complete profile)

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I have had many years teaching young people in High School in Visual Arts, beginning 1996 through to last year (with periods of time where I have been and am at present a full-time Artist. I also taught at Christchurch School. I have always taught Year 9 to Year 13 and my forte is Scholarship. I have collaborated with Councils to create large-scale murals for schools and universities. My passionate interests are Portraiture and looking into the psychological exploration of personality/identity and development of young people.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

As I have mentioned, my passionate interests are Portraiture and looking into the psychological exploration of personality/identity and development of young people. I feel that this programme is incredibly important in the development of young people. To approach an Artist is something many would never have the courage to do or experience and to be able to ask questions of an Artist's day-to-day life, gives student insight like no other possible experience. It is a personal engagement that goes beyond the classroom and enriches their lives and in turn, enriches mine. I find that I learn just as much from students as they may do from me. Learning and teaching are reciprocally rich.
