My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a visual artist who specialises in the mediums of drawing, printmaking, and painting. My specific focus within my main mediums includes charcoal and chalk pastel, woodcuts and intaglio techniques and oil and watercolour painting. In broad terms, my work deals with concepts of ownership. For current practice and further information please look online.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

In 2007 I completed a Visual Arts Degree From Ara and was the recipient of multiple scholarships and awards. In 2011 I undertook honours in Fine Arts majoring in printmaking, at Ilam and received a scholarship and first class honours. I am currently completing a Masters of Multimedia art with an end date of February 2020. I have participated in over 40 exhibitions across the country and internationally.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

I completed a Graduate Diploma in teaching and learning (secondary) From Canterbury University in 2014 and have a current teaching certificate. Since this time I have taught across both Secondary and Tertiary in a variety of Art teaching positions. In my current position, I am responsible for the running and implementing of a course in the creative process to young adults, as well as teaching drawing to degree-level students. I have a wide range of teaching experiences including teaching youth pathways. Additionally, as a Mother to a 7- and 4-year-old, I have gained experience working at the other end of the spectrum, and have often helped in the primary classroom teaching art.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I have a long term goal to be an active contributor to the future of art education in New Zealand. I believe there is a real need for Art to be more prominent in Education, and I believe I have a unique skill set and valuable experience to contribute to the creatives in schools programme.
