I am available in Central Auckland, extending as far as Mt Albert, Owairaka, Balmoral, Mt Eden, Newmarket, Westmere.

My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am a practising artist based in central Auckland. My practice is grounded in the mediums of painting, printmaking, and drawing through which I consider art history, human behaviour and neuroscience, philosophy, and education. My work can be viewed at a gallery in Wellington. I have taught multiple year levels at Elam School of Fine Arts at the University of Auckland for over 7 years. I have 3 years' experience working with primary-aged children from my time spent in the Children's Gallery at Melbourne Museum.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

Over the past decade I have received recognition from my peers and experts in the field of contemporary art. My critical success is evidenced by the galleries, curators, and writers I have worked with during my career. I have also been successful in securing three residencies and a significant artists grant.

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

Over the past decade I have delivered numerous university-level fine arts papers to young adults wishing to pursue a career/pathway in the arts. My consistent employment and excellent feedback from students leads me to believe that I am a very good teacher who is capable of leading students in their learning trajectories. I am also able to work closely with other educators, as team teaching is frequently embraced in the art school environment. One of the most successful papers I ran at art school involves paint and the language of actions. It's hands-on and improvisational and generates a love and curiosity for paint. I think children would enjoy this paper. I have three years' work experience with primary school-aged children. This was gained while working in the Children's Museum, Infozone and Science Gallery at the Melbourne Museum. Here I delivered talks and ran education programme activities. I am planning a workshop for my daughter's daycare centre which focuses on making your own paint out of environmentally friendly ingredients. For example: egg tempera painting and natural plant-based dyes. Based on observations of my daughter, many children like repetition. I would be interested to develop a meaningful print project.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

The Creatives in Schools programme is an excellent initiative that I would love to be a part of because it not only has the potential to improve and enrich our children's experience of art classes but it seems like a lot could be gained from two professionals with different work experiences working together and sharing their knowledge base. I know that I will learn a huge amount because children are excellent teachers. Their minds are often more supple and curious than older adults and the way that they create and problem-solve never ceases to amaze me. Their cognitive elasticity and willingness to make mistakes will no doubt inspire me to find more original solutions in my own practice.
