I bring with me three years of experience working as a Teacher Aide in both Kura Kaupapa Māori and Mainstream schools, working with a range of learning levels from new entrants to year 13 in Wharekura. In 2011-2012 I was part of a Group Reading Programme at a library, alongside peers of a High School, we taught Kura Kaupapa Māori kids to read in bilingual contexts. I have also facilitated the role of Kapahaka Tutor at a few schools in preparation for local and regional performances. I am able to build a good rapport with tamariki from various walks of life, I operate in a constructive manner that encourages students to be future leaders for their people.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

The Creatives in Schools programme aligns with the values and mission statement of our studio, to provide an educational stepping stone towards Te Ao Māori. We want to inspire those within the community to bring their skills and talents back home, and provide a platform for people who exhibit untapped potential in the field of Creative Arts. We will collaborate with Patea Area School to utilise their Project Day 2020, building a network of artists within the community and embody the vision of our studio.
