My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)

I am heavily trained and experienced in dance, having been part of that community my whole life. I have a natural affinity for character acting and this has led me to train in musical theatre. My strengths lie in producing clean dancers who are technically sound and safe. I also have a knack for physical comedy and character vocals.

My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with

  • Bachelors Degree in Performing Arts majoring in Musical Theatre
  • NASDA British Ballet Organisation Advanced Certificates in Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary
  • 4 years consistent dance Teaching for a reputable dance school in Tauranga plus sporadic teaching in New Zealand and London
  • Performance in multiple stage shows, productions and musicals including lead role Sally Bowls in Cabaret, Rosalia in West Side Story, Gypsy Queen in Don Quixote

Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes

Currently teaching Ballet, Urban, Musical Theatre and Singing training to students ages 3–17 at a dance centre in Tauranga. After having been a student there for 15 years I have returned as a teacher and have been employed for four years. I teach multiple dance disciplines and am involved in the creative process of productions and choreographing dances for competitions. I have also developed the Musical Theatre syllabus for assessments myself. I also currently run a dance class for students with special needs. I have also worked as a nanny in New Zealand and London.

Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice

I am always looking for ways to further and broaden my career prospects. My current position's hours are limited to after-school hours as I work with mostly school-aged children. Entering into a school-based programme and working with young people outside of my usual clientele would be a great way for me to open my scope within dance and singing.
