My arts or creative practice (including details about my specific focus within that art form/practice and my strengths)
We focus on arts that are accessible to community groups throughout Aotearoa, whether that be visual arts, performing arts, or multi-disciplinary. We have worked with individuals, groups, and artists at all levels to achieve our aim of creating extraordinary art for everyday people.
My track record of experience and success - or the track record of experience and success of the creative or artist that I will partner with
We have been working in the community since 2015, with groups such as the Hobson Street Theatre Company, The Mangere Refugee Resettlement Centre, Council boards, Local Boards, and many individual artists. We are contracted by two local boards currently to manage their arts broker programmes.
Describe the experience you have had working with children or young people, teaching or facilitating creative processes
In 2017 we worked closely with three schools on a community programme. We worked with an artist who taught the students photography and with the students directly, helping them to brainstorm around ideas for their new community centre. We regularly work alongside school aged students in our work as arts brokers.
Why I want to be part of the Creatives in Schools programme and how my involvement will link to my creative practice
We see this as a wonderful opportunity to once again work with school-aged children who bring amazing imaginations and energy to everything they do. We are interested in how art can bring a community together and have spoken with our primary school about how their new and growing community can benefit from a programme such as this. We are excited to see how the arts can connect this emerging community.
